THE two buildings of flats on a Tottenham estate could be pulled down because of worried that there is a possible it could collapse.
As a result of questionnaires being carried out due to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, it has been enclosed that the Tangmere and Northolt blocks on the Broadwater Farm estate are facing certain safety risks in the occasion of structural destruction from a vehicle strike, gas explosion or other likely events.
Haringey Council intends to get rid of the blocks and replace them with “high-quality, new council home built on the estate”.
It stated that the extent of structural work required to reinforce the flats to the required degree would be highly costly and could decrease the finance reserved for other projects.
Reinforcing the buildings would roughly cost £48.9 million, in comparison to £63 million to reconstruct the blocks. Prior to making a final decision in regards to the blocks, the local authority intended to discuss with residents which are being rehoused because of the safety risks.
