The Turkish speaking young people from our community continue to face various issues and dilemmas which leads them to end their lives.
Our young people, who are usually experiencing mental and physical problem tend to find suicide as the only solution. Most recently, Yasin Koca has committed suicide and left all his loved ones in shock and deeply hurt.
The death of Yasin Koca, a 20-year-old young man from Kabaktepe has left caused his family members and friends to be extremely shocked and miserable.
Speaking to our newspaper, researcher, and doctoral student Özlem Eylem has explained the causes of the young people committing suicide, she stated:
“When we look at the causes of suicide in immigrant communities, we can perceive that one of the social causes of suicides stems from harmonization problems. The fact that the traditions and customs of the communities in the settled geographies are different from those of the immigrant societies leads to difficulties in the adaptation process to the established country and can cause loneliness and lack of psychological dimension. This is evident in particular within the younger generation.”
