With International Women’s Day, I can proudly say that today Turkish women hold world-class leadership positions, this progress today is owed to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Ensuring equal rights between men and women was an important part of Atatürk’s progressive program for a modern Turkey.”
Following the speech of Maviş Fuchs, the TRNC London Representative Zehra Başaran presented her speech in relation to International Women’s day.
Touching upon the historical context of the rights of women and the historical struggle that women committed, Zehra Başaran said:
“Within the historical and vital struggle which Turkish women committed for their rights, it is significant to appreciate the rights Atatürk gave for Turkish women.
In my opinion, it’s actually women’s day every day.
Our women are involved in every aspect of administrative positions in contemporary society which is a great accomplishment.
As we cannot imagine a world without women we also can’t imagine a world without men.”
