The press statement stated that sugar beet and agriculture production were done seriously in the region and that the people of the thermal power plant region would be extremely negatively affected and the following were shared:
“With the start of industrialisation in Elbistan, environmental problems have begun to increase. The thermal plants that are going to be built in Akbayır will pose a serious threat to the public in Elbistan, Turkey. The thermal power plant is an extremely dangerous industrial structure that destroys water resources, destroys the air of all the settlements in time, especially the air of the region where it is built, and destroys human life from day to day. The air circulation due to Elbistan’s geographical location is low because it is surrounded by mountains. The waste of the thermal power plant to be built here will be collected in the city and it’s a serious threat to the city life. Knowing all this, insisting on a thermal power plant is an invitation to open death! ”
The statement was made behalf of EL-COM (Elbistan Community Centre), with the British Alevi Federation, Kürecikliler Solidarity Association, Göksunlular Solidarity Association, Blacksmith Solidarity Association, Gürünlüler Solidarity Association Hüseyin Kılıç, Imam Ceyhan, Mustafa Doğan, Bülent Ordu, İsrafil Erbil, Ahmet Altun, Mehmet Ali Altun, Hasan Gül and Doğan Temur supporting the protest.
