LONDON City Airport has been shut down after a World War Two bomb was discovered near the River Thames.
The airport will be closed all day and all flights cancelled, distressing up to 16,000 passenger’s flights.
The bomb was found on Sunday at Geroge V Dock in the course of pre-planned work at the airport in East London, the Met Police stated.
The airport was closed at 22:00 and the Met declared it was operating with the RoyaL Navy to eliminate the device.
In reference to the airport’s website, a sum of 261 arrivals and departures were due for Monday, and 130 flights were cancelled earlier.
A spokesman for the airport said, “All flights today are cancelled but some airlines have moved their flights to other airports – CityJet to Southend and Alitalia to Stansted.”
Passengers have been told not to travel to the airport as the terminal is closed and to contact their airline.
