PETROL and diesel cars disposed to be banned in parts of East London accompanied by £130 fines for motorists which refuse to obey rules.
Hackney and Islington councils have announced that they are conversing on a plan to prohibit petrol, diesel and older hybrid vehicles from going into nine streets in Hoxton and Shoreditch.
This scheme will be in place with peak passenger times of 7am to 10am and 4pm and 7pm also motorists refusing to obey the rules would be fined up to £130.
The scheme is aimed to come into place by March, as stated by the Hackney Council.
Councillor Feryal Demirci, Hackney Council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods, transport and parks, stated: “The streets around Shoreditch suffer from some of the worst air quality in London.
Ultra-low emission streets will have reduced levels of air and noise pollution, make it easier and safer to walk and cycle and improve the character of the area for all residents and businesses.
“Our ultimate goal is to reclaim the streets from polluting motor vehicles – this ground-breaking scheme is the first step towards doing that.”
