The marathon organized by ALİKEV Foundation, which was established with the aim of supporting the memory of Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who was beaten and killed by the police during the events of Gezi Park, and providing support to young people in terms of education and scholarship, was held in London and Birmingham simultaneously with İstanbul.
On Sunday, November 12th the races took place at 10 o’clock and many citizens participated. Those who participated in the run showed their support by buying different t-shirts prepared by the foundation for the support purpose of the youth.
ACHIEVEMENT OF ALIKEV FOUNDATION
Ali İsmail Korkmaz; in 2011, when he was 17 years old, he started a movement called “Youth for Society” and organized many activities in this scope by the help of his friends. The first activity they undertook was to clean up the school’s garden, they organised many activities such as visiting nursing home, collecting blue bottle lids for the disabled, reading to primary school students, sending books and clothes support to village schools with limited opportunities.
Ali Ismail, who was “Free World in Dreams”, had many activities and ideas for this dreams and was planning to make innovations for society. Even in this context, he planned to do and reported activities and wrote in his diary. Ali Ismail in his day expressed the reason of his actions as follows; “My purpose in writing these writings was not to just gather up in my own mind and to make this team, the young people who really work for the community, and the team to shed some form of official recognition.”
So if Ali Ismail was living now, he was probably working for the benefit of society and aiming to give them an institutional identity.
