British father and son named Geoffrey and William Sherwood set out from Cyprus to London on their bicycles to support earthquake victims in Turkey.
The duo, who were hosted by Yunusemre Municipality in Manisa, stayed one night at Yunus Emre Culture Park Facilities. During their stay, father and son visited the Ottoman Museum and learned about the culture and history of Turkey.
Stating that the purpose of organizing this tour was to help earthquake victims, Geoffrey said: “The earthquakes in Hatay and surrounding provinces deeply injured us. We organized this tour to help earthquake victims in the region. We collect financial aid from the places we visit throughout the tour. We have collected 3 thousand pounds so far, we aim to collect another 2 thousand pounds by London. “We will donate the 5 thousand pounds collected to relevant institutions and associations.”
Expressing that they liked Turkey and Manisa very much, Geoffrey stated that they met friendly people in Turkey and were welcomed very well: “We are a family from Bournemouth who are passionate about cycling. I am a retired computer engineer and my son is an emergency room doctor. We met friendly people in Turkey and were welcomed very well. We had no problems. “We thank Yunusemre Municipality for hosting us in their beautiful facilities,” he said.
Sherwood stated that this meaningful cycling tour played an important role in both increasing efforts to support earthquake victims in Turkey and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
