The Mayor of London shares his Eid message

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan shares his Eid message as the month of Ramadan comes to a end.

Reminding millions of Muslims that in order to save lives this year they need to stay home Khan said:  

“As-salamu alaykum

Eid Mubarak.

I’d like to send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

Normally, Eid is a time for Muslims to come together – with family, friends and fellow worshippers.

It’s a time when we’re generous not only with our charity, but with our food servings and our hugs too.

But this year’s going to be very different because we have to stay at home and save lives.

And yet – as Muslim Londoners have shown throughout Ramadan, keeping our distance doesn’t mean we can’t still hold each other close in our hearts.

Whether it’s participating in virtual iftars or finding safe ways to support the most vulnerable, it’s possible to be together while staying apart.

So, please continue to stay at home and follow the rules.

Finally, I want to pay a tribute to our Muslim community, for your huge contribution to our city during this difficult time, and showing that London’s diversity is our greatest strength.
