Titled as “Latest Development in Cyprus, Regional Problems and National Solution”, the panel attracted a high level of interest from the community to talk, tackle and discuss the future of the islands especially by referring to Cypriot Turks’ prospects. Amongst the panellists, were the former Northern Cyprus Ankara Ambassador Dr Ahmet Zeki Bulunç and retired Amiral Soner Polat, the panel tackled the future of negotiations however stood for being criticism against the current Northern Cyprus President, Mustafa Akıncı.
Agreeing on the fact that Mr Akıncı’s discourse on “Everything is going great, both sides have been settling on things and we have been able to solve some problems through our negotiations”. Panellists agreed on the fact that the “blurred” discourse should be more opened up for everyone to actually understand what really is happening.
Mr Bulunç also mentioned that after the UK’s Brexit vote the ambiguity leads enough of blur in the “European understanding” globally.
“Northern Cyprus is a territory that was gained by Cypriot Turks after long and hard eras. Northern Cyprus should be accepted and seen as a real country and should be respected just like other countries”
