As a result of the recent arrests and detonations against HDP MPs in Turkey, Democratic Power Union, based in London descended on streets for democracy in Turkey.

Starting off by the English Parliament in Westminster, the demonstrations came to an end in Piccadilly Circus. Despite the heavy rain and cold weather the crowd overcame 2 kilometres of walk, and thrived to get their voices heard.

The demonstration that had supports from a range of British organisations and charities, the speeches commonly tackled democracy, justice, human rights, solidarity and freedom. The crowd, with almost every age group, condemned the anti-democratic movements primarily surrounded around the HDPB with slogans of getting the democracy back. Referring to the media censorship as well, DPU condemned the recent shuttings of TV channels like Hayatın Sesi, TV 10, Van TV, Jiyan TV, Azadi TV and Zarog TV, the press statement said it is completely out of mind that democratically elected HDP MPs can be treated like culprits.

DPU had announced that they had started a campaign month which would include a continuation of demonstrations and public events to raise awareness.  DPU stated that now there is a new era has started off for the DPU, as the union is looking for local media and community unions to collaborate with, in order to raise awareness to the Kurdish rights.

Despite the little tension caused by several fireworks’ gazes, the demonstration ended up easily.
