CHP (Turkey’s Republican People’s Party) UK’s general assembly was gathered together last weekend to elect its new leader. The assembly, that took place at the EPIC Dalston on 16 October ended up with Hasan Dikme’s triumph as two of the candidates withdrew from the election.
The event started with a stand in silence and the national anthem, followed by the welcoming speech of the former president Suna Akartuna. After the welcoming speeches and the reports of the past season notes, the president candidates launched their speeches.
The new leadership was announced under the presidency of Hasan Dikme, with his team, Sibel Özçelik, Elif Gelirli, Sibel Alp, Seyit Gencay, Kazım Gül, Sidar Yıldırım, Ayhan Peker and Latif Balcı as the board of directors and Seher Giyer, Şükrü Gülşen and Seyda Aksu as backups.
Davut Karataş: “I withdraw as a candidate”
The assembly wasn’t significant only for the election of its future president but also for the events it accommodated during the day. Davut Karataş, who was seen as one of the most powerful candidates declared that he would withdraw from the election, due to the inorganic growth of new members.
“As the AltıOk Group, we don’t want to be involved in an inorganic growth. I am not convinced that the recent growth in our members show a falseness”
After the event, Mr Karataş’s withdrawal was followed by another one by one of the candidates, Erol Başarık, which narrowed the candidates into only two. Competing for presidency, Dursun Boran and Hasan Dikme made their speeches as the votes showed Hasan Dikme took over the presidency for the new season.
