CEFTUS celebrated its fifth anniversary with glittery celebration in central London. The anniversary event that marked the success of CEFTUS’ work so far also pursued the goal of raising funds to carry out CEFTUS’ future projects.
As the anniversary celebrations in previous years had welcomed members of parliaments of UK and Turkey, London councillors, academics, journalists, business people and representatives of communities. This year, the event again was joined by distinguished guests from UK and Turkey’s political and business world.
The event that took place on the 9th of October, accommodated a wide range of artistically acclaimed musicians like the German pianist Henning Schmidt, Turkish cello player Erman Imayhan and the internationally known Turkish composer and performer Zülfü Livaneli. Accompanied by Erman Imayhan’s unique cello skills, Mr Livaneli performed Turkish poet late Nazım Hikmet’s “Yiğidim Aslanım” piece live.
“We need to embrace more refugees”
As one of the top distinguished guests, Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn, in his speech, criticized the current government over the recent news on UK’s refugee quota for only 20,000 refugees.
