Enfield Council seizes fake “Viagra”

More than a hundred doses of fake “Viagra” medication have been seized by Enfield Council after a sting operation involving trading standards officers from across north London, HM Revenue & Customs and sniffer dogs.

Erectile dysfunction medications Kamagra Oral jelly and Sildamax were handed over in a barber’s shop during raids carried out as part of an operation, which was looking for non-duty paid tobacco, alcohol and other illegal goods were seized across north London during the operation on Friday night (23 September).

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “Selling unlicensed medicines is not only illegal, but poses a serious health risk.

“Unlicensed medicines can be extremely dangerous as they may contain impurities, incorrect ingredients, and there is no way of knowing whether they have been manufactured to acceptable quality and safety standards.

“Though I appreciate that such products offered in this way may appear tempting, please don’t be fooled.

“These criminals are not interested in your health – just your money. Taking any unlicensed medical products in this way is a risk just not worth taking.

“I therefore strongly recommend that anyone who needs advice or treatment for a medical condition, however sensitive, visits their GP and only obtains medical products from reputable high street outlets or online retailers displaying the distance selling logo.”

Anyone who suspects illegal or counterfeit products are being sold in Enfield should contact the Council’s Trading Standards team.
