h2p1

Many believers gathered together to celebrate the Greater Eid and Exchange Bayram greetings. Getting on with the Bayram prayers, Süleymaniye Mosque Imam then made a speech on the importance of the Greater Eid by highlighting togetherness, solidarity and the importance of being a community.

What is Greater Eid?

The holiday, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, or Greater Eid, is distinct from Eid-al-Fitr, which was celebrated earlier this week.

Centred on prayer and animal sacrifice, Eid al-Adha symbolises Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as a sign of devotion to Allah.

In Muslim countries, Eid al-Adha is a public holiday that involves animal sacrifice, prayers and family gatherings. The day begins with morning prayers, followed by visits to family and friends and the exchange of food and gifts. Muslims are obliged to share food and money with the poor so that they can take part in the celebrations.
