Philip Glanville

Following the resignation of current Mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe, Hackney Labour have selected Philip Glanville as Labour’s candidate to contest the by-election.

As a part of his election campaign, Glanville paid a visit to the Day-Mer centre to talk about Turkish and Kurdish communities’ concerns and to refer their questions. Coming together with the community on the 2nd of September, Friday, Glanville highlighted the importance of Turkish and Kurdish communities in Hackney, given their enduring support to the market and the existing cultural diversity. Tackling the post-Brexit events like the increasing discrimination, Glanville stated that London itself, as a city, is culturally diverse and that fact is one of London’s unchangeable qualities. Mr Glanville also shared her ideas on doubling the number of council homes built from 2018; and to commit Hackney to being the first borough in London to build 500 of Sadiq Khan’s London Living Rent homes – where no one pays more than a third of their income in rent.

The election which will take place on 15 September will have Glanville running for the Labour Party. Glanville has a long history of campaigning for improved housing in Hackney and his selection has pleased all groups within the party. Mr Glanville said that his vision for Hackney is one that is both innovative and achievable and aims to build a better, fairer, more sustainable borough.
