Turkey’s ambassador to London, Abdurrahman Bilgiç, met with journalists operating in London, post coup attempt in Turkey.
During last Wednesday, the main topic of discussion, which was carried out at the Embassy building, was about the failed coup that took place in Turkey. 20 journalists attended the question and answer session. Ambassador Bilgiç told the journalists that he is calling support for democracy. At the meeting in which many different refreshments was offered, interesting moments took place between Ambassador Bilgiç and the journalists.
Bilgiç answered questions about the attempted coup that took place in Turkey. He said: “due to the attempted coup, 246 citizens lost their lives while more than 2 thousand have been injured. During the attack, they bombed the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and opened fire on our people.
The attempted coup, undertaken by the Fethullah Gülen terrorist organisation (FETÖ), resulting in failure has protected our country from any further damage. The Turkish citizens were very successful at defending their country by going out on to the streets.” When asked about why HDP’s Co-Chairman Selahattin Demirtas did not participate in the discussions that took place between Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, CHP leader,Kemal Kilicdaroglu, and MHP leader ,Devlet Bahceli, Bilgiç said: “I do not know a lot about this issue. For example, I don’t know for sure whether or not an invitation was sent to him, or if he denied the invitation. Answering to questions that I’m not definite about would not be appropriate.” In response to a question asked about the declaration of a State of Emergency that will take place in Turkey for the next 3 months, Bilgiç said: “it’s a precaution that needs to be taken in order to protect our country. In addition, France also declared a State of Emergency after they were attacked.”
“ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT YOUR CURRENT POSITION?”
Laughter among the journalists and Ambassador Bilgiç took place when one journalist asked: “many people have been detained in all areas of Turkey, except from politicians. What do you think about this case and are you worried about your current position?” Bilgiç sincerely responded to the question: “I’m sure that the government officials have removed, and is still currently removing members of this terrorist organisation. Whoever supports this group will be punished. Whether it’s the soldiers, civil servants or politicians, they will receive the required punishment. If I was part of this group, I would be worried, however since I am not; I do not feel any sense of fear at all.” He said.
