The European Association for the Disabled, (Avrupa Engelliler Derneği) together with the 1. AVED Festival, met in Tottenham Down Lane Park with the aim to make people with disabilities feel more comfortable, social and artistic so that they can become motivated to take part in sporting and cultural events.
The festival which lasted the whole day on Saturday, brought families, disabled citizens and friends together as they participated in various colourful activities which enabled those who attended to enjoy the beautiful weather, as well as talk about future projects designed to support disabled Turkish speaking people living in London. Deputy Mayor of Haringey, Stephen Mann, and his wife Cllr Jenniger Mann also participated in the festival as honorary participants.
In the speech that the president of AVED, Poyraz Veysal Cadir, gave to the Londra Gazete, he expressed his happiness and gratitude to them for not leaving him alone as he said: “our goal is to give our disabled friends a great festival experience and a sense of solidarity . Here we offer free food and beverage to our disabled brothers and sisters and do our best to entertain them with various activities.”
Many participants enjoyed the Turkish food in the bazaar area whilst both the adults and children enjoyed their time. The festival also included special games and face painting for children which allowed then to savour the day so much so that they are already looking forward to next year’s festival.
