The 84 year old Galatasaray and Turkish football legend Turgay Şeren, passed away in Istanbul during the early hours in Thursday. Renowned by the nickname “Berlin Panther”, Şeren had been one of the most unforgettable names of Turkish National Football team and Galatasaray.

Due to his illness, Şeren had been under medication and care for a long time and it had even precluded him from walking for the past few months. As spending his whole career with Galatarasay, Şeren had gained the nickname “Berlin Panther” due to his historic saves at the Germany-Turkey match in 1951.

UK Galatasaray Supporters Foundation published a letter of condolence earlier today saying:

“We are very saddened to announce the death of one our legends Turgay Şeren.  He passed away earlier today at the age of 84.  We would like to express our sorrow and condolences to his family, Galatasaray and the wider Football community. He will be remembered forever.”
