Dalston Square is the place to be this summer, with big names lined up to entertain Hackney residents of all ages.
Hackney Council’s Dalston Square Summer Programme will bring a selection of artists, comedians, musicians and activities to the borough that will keep families entertained throughout June till the end of August 2016.
All of the events and activities are free and take place during the long afternoons of the summer months where the weather will be at its finest.
This season’s programme includes:
- Friday 17 June, 8.30-9.30pm: Street Orchestra London – an orchestra of 40 young musicians will take to Hackney’s streets to play non-classical music as part of their first ever street tour.
- Saturday 25 June, Saturday 9 and 30 July, 2-4pm: Super Games Day – Universal Board Games bring games from around the world to the Square for a truly intergenerational event.
- Saturday 2 and 23 July, Saturday 6 and 20 August, 2-3pm: Children’s Comedy from Arcola Theatre – the Arcola’s stand-up comedians will have you laughing all the way home.
- Saturday 13 August, 12-5pm: Anansi Day – an extraordinary day will celebrate the fabled story-telling spider, Anansi. Residents can join artists in making a giant Anansi web in the Square for a larger than life Anansi, while listening to tales of Anansi from storyteller Baden Prince. Spectacular performances by Gahu Dramatic Arts and Yaram Arts will add to the drama of this characterful day.
Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Libraries and Culture, said: “Reflecting the energy, creativity and unique character of Dalston, the Council’s Summer Programme in the Square is a fantastic opportunity for Hackney families of all ages to be entertained throughout the season. With a packed line up that’s completely free, residents will have more than one opportunity to get involved with what’s going on so no one has to miss out. Get to Dalston Square this summer, have some fun and enjoy what’s on offer!”
