Celebrating Enfield’s cultural diversity with poetry

Anthony Fisher

A NEW exhibition celebrating the rich diversity of Enfield is opening at the Dugdale Centre.

Londinium, a poem celebrating language and diversity, written by Enfield poet, Anthony Fisher, has been translated into 25 languages and printed onto huge A1 sized posters that will line the walls of the gallery space in London Road, Enfield.

As well as the printed poems, there are language notes and a jukebox that plays recordings of all the translations, spoken by readers from the UK and abroad.A Dugdale Centre spokeswoman said: “We have a rich cultural diversity here in Enfield.“Obviously there was a big Greek and Turkish migration and at the moment we do a lot of work here with people from the Ukraine. The poem has been translated into 25 different languages, including Ukrainian, so the exhibition will be of great interest to a lot of people.”

Londonium runs from Monday March 21 to April 15 and admission is free.
