Cypriot director Talat Gökdemir’s short movie “Hafta Sonu” drew a lot of attention in a gala screening.
Hosted by KKTC London representative Oya Tuncalı and her husband Ihsan Tuncali, drew a lot of attention from all segments of people including the consulate general Abdurrahman Bilgiç and his wife Esra Bilgiç. The short movie, 22 minutes long, was a success according to the participants who gathered in the gala screening on 25th of February, Thursday. After the screening the participants were served special tastes from Cypriot cuisine.
Ex-girlfriend, old mother, search for identity.
The movie was show in several places: Geçitkale, Akova, Gönendere and Ercan Airport. The protagonist, Hasan visits his hometown in Cyprus after a long time due to his father’s death. He spends time in a conservative village where he was raised. By that occasion he gets to see and spend time with his old mother and ex-girlfriend. This unique confrontation with his past makes him question his identity. The story was written in 2010, which was later shot in 2015. The young director Talat Gökdemir asks in relation to the movie: “ What happens when your identity is shattered, which once kept running away from the past? What were all your efforts for? What did you achieve by this absolute escape from your past rural life?”
