First female in the UK to receive a sentence

Young British mother gets six years for attempting to joing ISIS, who also took her toddler with her to Syria.

26-year-old Tareena Shakil is now the first female in the UK to receive a sentence after returning from the Caliphate – so called. MR justice Inman, who sentenced her, spoke of how she had no remorse for her children, and they could have turned into “an IS fighter”

“You allowed him to be photographed next to an AK47,” he said. She admitted to travelling to Syria bur denied attempting to join ISIS. The former Health worker from Birmingham posted a picture of a 14 month old boy wearing IS-bran balaclavas

Most alarmingly you took your toddler son to Syria knowing how he would be used. “You embraced your role in providing fighters of the future,” said the Judge at the Birmingham Crown Court.

Phil Mackie, BBC Midlands correspondent and analyst, reported that 60 women are thought to have travelled to Syria – and said how this particular trial “gave an insight to how would-be jihadi brides went to Raqqa.” According to her account, Shakil spent the rest of the journey on foot, her child in hand, and handed herself in into Turkish border patrols.

However, reports from many Journalists, one of whom has now been jailed for it, Can Dundar, exposed the AKP government’s lack-of care in rounding potential ISIS recruits, prompting many to question the AKP’s ,abilities and interests.

This is a deeply disturbing case which could have resulted in tragedy for the toddler involved,” Said the childrens charity, NSPCC, at the hearing.
