Haringey’s “Health day”

 

Without a doubt, health is the most important issue among Turkish and Kurdish speaking communities in the UK. Taking the issue into its horizon, the Cypriot Turkish Community Centre organised a ‘health day’.

At Gladesmore Community School, between 11:00am and 15:00pm, blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI of attendees were taken. Some people were referred to their GP following the tests.

The free health check was organised by TCCA who aimed to provide the community a rise in awareness of illnesses and where they are at in approaching them.

As well as biological health, psychological well-being was highlighted, taking a more broad, holistic approach to health and well-being.

Seminars

Dr. Mehtap Yesil gave two separate seminars on Diabetes and Blood pressure; Dr. Macide Yuksel informed the attendees on the important of psychological well-being; Dr. Tahsin Bilginer spoke to the audience on high Cholesterol, and answered questions directed from the audience.

Both Dr. Mehtap Mehmet Yesil and Dr Tahsin Bilginer were presented with a cup by TCCA for contributing into the event.

The Health Day will see a repeat

 Attendees were very please with the event, prompting possible health events in the future.
