Two Turkish Universities in Top 10

Two of Turkey’s universities have occupied places in the top 10 of Times Higher Eduation’s (THE) top small universities.

Leading the list was the ‘California institute of technology’; the French “École Normale Supérieure” followed second place; the bronze medal went to “École Normale Supérieure”, also French.

Turkey’s Koc University took 8th place, as Sabanci University just caught 10th – Both institutions named after two of Turkey’s wealthiest Families.

In 2014, three of Turkey’s top universities – Bogazici University, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and Middle East Technical Univerity (ODTU) – took solid places in the first-ever list of best universities in Emerging Economies and BRICS. Bogazici squeezed in fifth place, while ITU took seventh, as ODTU made ninth place.

At the time, in 2014, Editior Phil Baty said, “Turkey is one of the strongest performers. With five universities in the top 20, it is the second strongest nation after China. The diversity and competition of the sector contributes significantly. This is a feature acquired from the United States. Economists place high importance on Turkey’s young population and economic potential. Universities will play a great role in Turkey achieving its goals.”
