The Olive Tree Foundation is opening up its reach beyond the U.K., and into Norther Cyprus.
Olive Tree, an education program and charity, works primarily in poor African and Middle-Eastern countries. The most recent of their programs include Tractors for Africa, providing African farmers with tractors, Well project and helping refugees.
The founder of the foundation, Gunay Veli, told Londra Gazete that they have been planning to help the less well-off in the Island of Cyprus, and now have decided to open up a branch in the region: “We are aiming to provide a comfortable life for people who cannot study due to finances, people with social problems, the homeless and poor children”.
“”In our first year, we are aiming to get three thousand people to become members; and to collect one million pounds from donations”.
Mr.Veli highlighted the importance of having people with good character and motivation with the organisation; for this reason, anyone chosen for top positions – president, secretary ect. – will not be affiliated with any political party, will not have a history of crime and has to prioritise help for others in need.
