The Guardian on Islamist Chechens who were killed in Istanbul

A Chechen fighter, Abdulvakhid Edelgireyev, successfully hid from the Kremlin for many years. His fate came to an end in Istanbul, where many believe he was killed the Kremlin, pointing to the possible orders made by Putin.

On November 1st 2015, at 2pm, Edelgireyev sat his niece in the passenger seat of his car: A white rammed into the driver’s seat, forcing the 32-year-old to scramble out of the car. He was chased down the street, the girl, his niece watching behind him, the hit-man chasing, firing shots at him; finally, he was closed down, killed by the hot metal from the assassins firearm – he crumbled to the ground.

The man whose life came to an end on that November day in Kayasehir, Istanbul, was an important figure in the Chechen resistance; part of an anti-Russian resistant umbrella group, Caucasus Emirate.

Many Chechen fighters have been murdered in recents years, within the streets of Istanbul, whoch has typically accommodated anti-Russian figures, most of whom are enemies of Kremlin-backed, Chechynian leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.

No arrests linked to the murder have been made, and it is doubted that anything significant will the news about the suspects. In fact, there are no suspects for the moment.
