Tribute paid to Mevlana in Manchester

 Manchester’s Manchester Turkish British Association (MBTA) members organised an event to pay tribute to well known poet, writer and mysticist Rumi Mevlana, attended by 125 guests.

MBTA is an association formed to bring together Turkish speaking people and everyone else in a cultural and social setting, formed by Turkish people who live in Manchester.

The association’s choir ‘Turkish Music Choir Mevlana’ voiced songs from Yunus Emre and Pir Sultan Abdal ‘poems’ on Sufism. A musician from The Study Society’s Musician also joined the event and played songs from Anatolian Sufi poetry; a Wheeling-Dervish from the same society performed for the event.

Including the classics Tar & Ney, Mevlana’s works from ‘the Segah’ (Salat-ı Ummiye ve Tekbir) was organised and recited for the Mevlana Lovers. For the first time, Mevlan’s “Ayla Gunes Geldi” (The moon and sun has come) poem was recited by a choir as a song. in Turkish. Semolina Halva and Ottoman Sherbet was served to the guest during the closing of the event.
