Christmas Celebrations in Haringey

 

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS HAVE began early in Haringey, as the Christmas lights were switched on last weekend (Saturday 31 November).

For the first time since 1989, this year the switched was flicked by the Head of Haringey Council, local MP, businesses and the members of the community. The festive lights stretched right down Haringey, Green Lanes and saw Haringey’s Big Band open the  evening with Head of Council Jennifer Mann, Tottenham MP David Lammy, Head of Haringey Community Association Şefik Mehmet, Rob Tao, Council MP candidate Emine İbrahim, Barbara Blake and many families from the area.

MANY ATTEND CHRISTMAS MARKET

One of the festive seasons favourite’s, the Christmas Market was also set up in Haringey with almost 20 stalls. From burgers to Muled Wine and cakes to hand-made gifts, visitors were definitely spoiled for choice.

Families together with children attended the Christmas events until around 5pm, followed by the switching of the lights on.

ŞEFİK MEHMET: WE INVITE WORLD LEADERS TO HARINGEY

Head of Haringey Community Association Şefik Mehmet, gave a speech at the evening where he explained the recent world events and how upsetting they have been for everyone. He said: “We invite world leaders Obama, Putin and Erdoğan to Haringey. In Haringey Green Lanes, there are over 200 races, languages and cultures, yet we are living together in peace. We want to see this peace right across the world. Let the leaders come and see how we are living together in peace.” He ended by thanking Haringey Council for their Christmas events.
