ALMOST 1000 PEOPLE have attended the performance of Ottoman Music pieces by the London orchestra with the leading of Dr. Emre Aracı at the Cagdogan Hall last Friday evening in London.
The event which was organised by the London Culture and Awareness Office and the Yunus Emre Institute also saw important guests attend including, The Turkish Ambassador for London Abdurrahman Bilgiç and his wife Esra Bilgiç, London Representative for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Oya Tuncalı and her husband, Head Consul Emirhan Yorulmazlar and wife Ayşegül Yorulmazlar, Official for London Culture Tourism and Awareness Selçuk Can and several members of the Osmanoğlu family who have a passion for music.
SULTAN’S MUSIC PERFORMED
The ‘Sultans & Vals’concert saw the Chamber Ensemble of London Orchestra perform 12 different pieces. These dated back to the Ottoman times in Europe which joined with Giuseppe Donizetti Paşa to discover this performance and was led by Emre Aracı. The first part of the music saw pieces from Giuseppe Donizetti Paşa, Callisto Guatelli Paşa, Gaentano Donizetti, Charles Louis Napoleon d’Albert, Jean-Baptiste Lully and a piece from W.P.R. Cope. In the second part of the concert pieces were played from Second Sultan Mahmud, Sultan Abdülaziz, 5th Sultan Murad, Fehime Sultan, Rifat Bey and Sir Burhaneddin.
Who is Dr. Emre Arıcı ?
Dr. Emre Aracı was born in Ankara in 1968. He completed his BMus (Hons.) in 1994 and his doctorate in 1999 in Edinburgh University. His doctoral thesis is “The Life and Works of Ahmed Adnan Saygun”. He was the conductor of string orchestra at Edinburgh University (1992-1997). He became an assistant at the Turkish Language Department of the Islam and Middle Eastern Research Center in Edinburgh University (1995-1998).
