12-Year-Old Ezo Wins Double Awards

 A TWELVE YEAR-OLD Turkish girl has won two awards in just one week at two separate music and drama festivals.

Ezo Sarici, aged just 12, attended the Marlow Festival of Music & Drama on Tuesday 17 November and also the Woking Music Festival. Ezo came first place with her performance for the “Intermediate String Recital” in the (15 Years and Under) category being awarded a Gold medal for an ‘outstanding performance’

 To reach the level of “Outstanding”, you must gain over 90 points out of 100, Ezo was awarded 99 points by the jury led by music international Michael Rose. In the competition there were even musicians aged 18, Ezo also won the award for “The Most Outstanding String Player” winning the “Maritz Cup” trophy as her prize.

She took part in the competition win piece “Romance” by Glier and Wieniawski’s “Scherzo- Tarantella Opus 16”, Ezo also won the award for being the strings player with the most committed performance- the prize for this was the Rotary Club of Marlow’s Prize- £50. Jury Michael Rose commented on Ezo’s performance of Tarantella Opus 16 and said: “This is a piece that is usually performed by violinist virtuoso’s who are 60 and above, this is a piece which difficulty is at expert or even master level, I can’t imagine how good Ezo will be when she gets older.”

After the competition, Marlow U3A Music Appreciation Group recommended Ezo for a recital at a performance that she is already set to be a soloist at in May next year (2016).

She went onto take part in the Woking Music Festival on Thursday 19 November where she performed in the “String Recital Under 14 Years” category and this time was judged by jury including Music Direct and Founder of National Children’s Wind Orchestra Gillian Johnson, where once again she was chosen as “Outstanding.”

Who is Ezo Sarici?

Ezo was born in London and started music lessons aged four at the Royal Academy of Music. She plays violin and piano, studying the violin with Anna-Liisa Bezrodny at the Junior Guildhall.

Ezo has participated in many courses including National Children’s Orchestra, South London Youth Orchestra, Pro Corda, New Virtuosi and International Violin Course of Benicassim.  She has also taken part in violin masterclasses and lessons with Michael Vaiman, Mari Tampere-Bezrodny, Cihat Askin, Wei Dong Tong and Tom Gould.

She has performed in venues across the UK including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, St John’s Smith Square, Milton Court, Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall at the Royal College of Music, Blackheath Halls and Conway Hall.

Having entered various competitions, Ezo reached the finals of Pro Corda’s National Chamber Group with a Guildhall quartet and was awarded second place at her school’s Solo String Prize.
