Teenager Prisoned for Joining PKK

A TEENAGER FROM LONDON has been sentenced to prison after she was charged with leaving the country to join terrorist group PKK.

Şilan Özçelik, 18, was arrested and charged after she left the UK in October last year to join the PKK in Brussels, Belgium. She left her family a letter and video message explaining that she had left to join the PKK. On 27 October 2014, she fled the country and went via train to Brussels. She was arrested shortly after her return to the UK earlier this year on 16 January 2015.

The court made a decision and charged Şilan Özçelik with having connections to the PKK and planning to attend terror demonstrations between 1-27 October, 2014.

She is the first British citizen to be charged and sentenced to prison for having ties with the PKK.

Petitions have been set up on change.org and across social media with the slogan “Free Shilan Ozcelik Now!”

Britain has seen the PKK as a terrorist group since 2001.
