A YOUNG MAN HAS been arrested and sentenced to 16 weeks in prison after he racially assaulted an elderly and disabled Turkish man on a bus last month in North London.
Kashif Samuels, age 25, was seen on the CCTV footage of the 149 bus where he is verbally abusive and racially attacks the old man. He was arrested by Metropolitan Police and after appearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court was sentenced to four months in prison.
Samuels who was on the bus when he was being racist and Islamophobic towards the man, was swearing and saying, “Go back to Turkey! No one understands you here. You’re here to get help without working.” He was also abusive towards Muslims and received reactions from the public. He was also seen throwing the walking stick of the elderly mans off the bus as the man tried step off the bus in Dalston.
Despite investigations, the elderly Turkish man who was racially attacked wasn’t able to be found and only because of passenger on the bus who filmed the attack, thousands of people watched in shock on social media and the police then traced down Kashif Samuels who was arrested.
HE’S BEEN ARRESTED BEFORE
According to an announcement made by officials, Kashif Samuels is known for wanting to cause disruption to the public and was arrested for a similar incident. He had been released on bail at the time of the incident and his bail period still hadn’t ended.
Judge Michael Mallon, said: “The footage shows and explains everything. It is obvious that the man who was attacked was elderly and didn’t know English very well. It is an upsetting incident and in no way is it tolerated.”
Samuels who works as a chef, explained that he was “ashamed” of what he done and that when his daughter grows up he does not want to her know of this incident.
He also said that he has had to move from the house and area he was living in and apologised to the whole community for what he done.
