Who are Baba Zula?
BaBa ZuLa are one of Turkey’s leading alternative bands, celebrating their 20th anniversary of making extraordinary music with a unique sound.  Their exotic, ritual-like performances are works of art on deep other-worldly grooves in a perfect marriage of traditional instruments and electronics. Based on the long-necked electric saz played by Murat Ertel, BaBa ZuLa’s music been dubbed ‘Istanbul Psychedelia’, tracing a line from the Turkish Anadolu Rock (Anatolian rock) movement of the 1970s and finding a natural resonance between the earthy folk music of the Middle East, effects pedals and contemporary experimental music. BaBa ZuLa collaborators have included London dub master Mad Professor, reggae producers Sly & Robbie, and bassists Alexander Hacke (Einstüerzende Neubauten) and Dr. Das (Asian Dub Foundation), and they have featured in several films including Fatih Akin’s seminal Crossing The Bridge.
