TURKISH AND KURDISH Community Centre (DAY-MER), has given a press conference at the London Community Centre, saying: “Not war but peace, not dictated but for a democratic Turkey we are voting for HDP”

DAY-MER held a press conference at the London Community last Saturday ahead of the general election in Turkey, and said they will be in support of the HDP party.

Below is an extract of what was discussed at the press conference by DAY-MER

Head of DAY-MER, Aslı Gül, DAY-MER Speaker Ahmet Sezgin, HDP Britains’ Vote Co-ordinator and DAY-MER member Feyzullah Cinpolat and Semra Demirci were leading the meeting. They announced:

“Turkey is to vote once again on the 1st November. Between 22-25 October, voting is to take place in London and Britain. So who are the Turkish working and retired Citizens of Britain going to vote for and why?”

Who are we going to vote for?

Erdoğan and his party AKP who hasn’t accepted the result of the election, since the 7th June turned the country into a bloodbath in the space of just three months for just ‘400 MPs’.

To become the ruling party himself, he crushed HDP and didn’t allow them to pass the barrier and provoked nationalists and then turned the country into a war zone. The temporary AKP government he rules said: “What solution, what negotiation?” and attempted to fix the Kurdish problem by making the police and army war and fight.

We all know the situation we were left in, everyday the country was hearing the death of fallen soldiers. We know closely the circumstances the country was left in and the pain we were watching and still are witnessing.

These seeds are planted with the aim to hate one another and see each other as enemies.  The political steps to supposedly fix the ‘Kurdish Problem’, stands at: whichever ethnicity or belief you are does not matter, every citizens life should be ruined.

Are our votes going to stop the sounds of guns, is it going to serve Turkish and Kurdish brothership or is it going to cause more bloodshed, more crying mothers and the Kurdish community to be all named as terrorists and killed?

Do we want a Turkey with democracy and where are given or do we want a Turkey where the rights and laws are put up on the shelf and a ‘one man dictatorship rules?”

As DAY-MER, we call upon all the workers and laborers to work towards peace and brotherhood. The votes we give on Sunday 1 November will be part of contributing to this. Our preferency is to use these votes whilst thinking of the public of Turkey, for them to have democracy, freedom and remembering we miss being in peace.

Our votes, despite everything should insist on saying peace-brotherhood, the rights of laborers, no to destroyment of nature, a free and equal future for young people and women, this way we must give them to HDP (The Publics Democratic Party)”
