CHP’s Mustafa Balbay in London this weekend

 

 

Mustafa Balbay, the prominent Turkish opposition politician, is to make a campaign stop in London this weekend.

The member of parliament for the Republican People’s Party (CHP) will appear at a conference organised by the Bozacader Association.

The CHP’s leader in the UK, Suna Akartuna, said Mr Balbay would meet local traders and make a number of radio appearances before the meeting, which will be held at the Old Library Building in Crompton Crescent, N17 7LD on Friday 22 May at 6.30pm.

Mr Balbay was arrested on 5 March 2009 as a suspect in an alleged plot to overthrow the Turkish government was sentenced to 34 years and eight months imprisonment in August 2013.

He was released in December 2013, after more than four-and-a-ahlf years in prison, after the Constitutional Court found his engthy imprisonment was a violation of the law and of his rights as an elected Member of Parliament.
