The Alevi Cultural Centre in Dalston held the organisation’s first careers day last Sunday, 19 April.
In an event organised by Esin Güneş and Ergin Erbil, and supported by City University, the centre said it took steps towards giving young people in the community a direction.
Cultural Centre director Tugay Hurman said it was important for young people to engage not with community or environmental factors, but with a career that would engage them in the future.
Among the speakers was the pilot Onur Taşçı, who spoke of his motivation for taking to the skies even though there wasn’t anyone around him to guide him in that direction. He reached his dream by not giving up, he said.
Also present at the event was Hackney councillor Jonathan McShane and the lawyers Ali Osoy and Fidan Osoy.
Messrs Osoy and Osoy, who formed the Advantage legal firm after their initial work setting up the Claims 4 Accident organisation, spoke at the event of their plans to represent the well-known Nill’s Mobilya and Konfor Mobilya Turkish furniture firms in the UK.
