Drivers ‘were speeding’ down busy shopping street, witnesses say

Two children are among three people hurt after a car careened onto the pavement off a busy North London shopping street.

A 12-year-old girl was taken to hospital after sustaining a leg injury. Another girl and an adult woman were also hospitalised with minor injuries.

Al three were reported to be in a good condition.

The Black Ford car collided with another grey car on Wood Green High Road early on Monday morning, causing significant damage to both vehicles and to street furniture.

A police statement said: “Police were called at 08:37hrs today, Monday, 13 April to reports of a car in collision with three people on Wood Green High Road.

“Officers and LAS attended and found a woman and two girls.

“One child sustained a leg injury and is in a stable condition. The other child and the woman sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to an east London hospital where they remain.

“The driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.”

Witnesses told Londra Gazete that both cars had been speeding excessively immediately before the accident.

There have been extensive road and pavement renovation works underway ni Wood Green High Road since last autumn. The accident occurred outside the Boots store, where perimeter fencing had been erected.

A police investigation into the accident is ongoing.
