Businesses pay for your parking

A new parking scheme has been launched to help small businesses and people with cars in Enfield’s town centres.

The Enfield Business and Retailers’ Association (EBRA) said the “parking in Enfield” scheme was an attempt to boost trade on the high streets.

After signing up on the website, shoppers can claim a part or full refund on their parking, depending on how much they spend in certain small businesses.

The scheme was described as “a great way” to help businesses with their trade, encouraging people to stay in independent stories for longer because they know the parking will be covered.

Vic Smith, of Vic Smith Beds, in Southgate and Enfield Town, has sponsored the scheme and called on the council to show its support.

He told the Enfield Independent: “It was a no-brainer to support this scheme. Anything that can help more people shop locally and help our high streets I am behind. I would like to see the council show its support for the scheme by promoting it on their website.”

Tahsin Ibrahim, a member of the EBRA board of governors, said the scheme would be valid in any business that carries the “Enfield Parking” symbol in its window.

“You will soon see these stickers in just about every part of Enfield. The big shopping centres have their own parking spaces so people do not visit local shops. Our aim is to keep local businesses afloat in the face of the big firms.”
