Wife fighting for husband paralysed after football hit his head during game

Kerem Akalın, 47, who lives in Chadwell Heath, Romford, East London, suffered a major health crisis due to a brain aneurysm that was thought to have been triggered by a football hitting his head while playing football with his colleague. According to his wife Yasemin Akalın, Kerem was a healthy and life-loving individual before the incident in May 2023.

Kerem was a father of two and worked in the IT department of a wholesale company. After being hit by a football, he was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Romford it was found he suffered a severe brain haemorrhage that left him with significant brain damage.

Yasemin was forced to leave her job in customer service and administration to look after the family’s two children on her own. Yasemin said she was looking for an option in Istanbul for her husband’s treatment and believed it was the best solution for Kerem. She has raised more than £20,000 so far in a GoFundMe campaign to cover Kerem’s treatment costs.

Saying on the GoFundMe page “Recently, we found an alternative treatment and medication with robotic rehabilitation program that could give my husband a chance at recovery. However the cost of this treatment is far beyond our means. I`m reaching out in the hope that you can help us fight for his health and bring him back to us.”

Adding “With your support, I believe we can give him a chance to reconnect with us and regain some of what we`ve lost.”
