A families appeal ‘Help My Mum Fight for Her Life’
Suna Kılıç, a 55-year-old from Tottenham, has travelled to Turkey for treatment after exhausting all options available through the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
Two years ago, Suna’s daughter Diana, then 26, noticed an unusual lump on her mother’s chest while playing at home. Subsequent tests confirmed Suna had HER2-positive breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease. Suna underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove lymph nodes, and the treatment initially appeared successful.
However, in July 2024, the cancer relapsed and mutated, developing into AML. In recent months, her condition has worsened and UK doctors have told us there’s nothing more they can do.
With UK doctors unable to offer further options, Diana and her sister Dilara researched international treatments. They connected with a specialist in AML in Turkey, who recommended Flag-Ida chemotherapy and Midostaurin. The costs of Flag-Ida chemotherapy and a targeted cancer drug called Midostaurin, over £80,000. Diana launched a GoFundMe campaign, rising over £72,000 so far.
Despite the risks of travel due to Suna’s condition, the family chose to pursue treatment abroad. Diana explained: “If there’s a chance to save my mum’s life elsewhere, we have to try.”
On November 15, Suna flew to Istanbul with medical assistance and is now awaiting treatment at Medicana Hospital. Diana expressed gratitude for the support: “If we hadn’t arrived in time, chemotherapy would no longer have been an option. The help we’ve received has been overwhelming.”
“We’re deeply grateful to everyone who donated or shared my mum’s story. The support makes us feel like we have family all around the world.”
