New bus route to connect Jewish communities amid antisemitism concerns

New bus route to connect Jewish communities amid antisemitism concerns

The Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) have announced the introduction of a new bus service, the 310, which will operate between Golders Green and Stamford Hill starting August 31. This marks the first direct bus connection between the two areas, serving residents in Hackney, Barnet, Islington, Camden, and Haringey, with stops at Highgate Village, Whittington Hospital, and Finsbury Park.

TfL will conduct a 12-month consultation to evaluate the route and will encourage community feedback to ensure its effectiveness. This initiative follows a campaign by the Jewish community advocating for a bus service to link these neighborhoods.

The 310 route will run parallel to the existing 253 service between Stamford Hill and Finsbury Park station, and the 210 service between Finsbury Park station and Golders Green. In the Finsbury Park area, the 310 will bypass the Wells Terrace bus station and instead travel via Stroud Green Road, with stops on Seven Sisters Road and westbound on Rock Street.

Key locations served by the new route include Kenwood, Highgate, Whittington Hospital, Archway, Hornsey Rise, Finsbury Park, Manor House, and Woodberry Down. This trial is part of TfL’s broader Bus Action Plan aimed at enhancing public transportation in London.

Andrew Gilbert, vice president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, expressed gratitude, saying: “The Jewish community thanks Commissioner Andy Lord and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan for making this happen. The Jews of Golders Green and Stamford Hill now have a direct transport connection as part of the standard transport network. We appreciate the efforts of everyone who worked on this for over 15 years.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan stated: “I pledged to introduce this route between Golders Green and Stamford Hill, and I am pleased to deliver on that promise. This new bus route will connect these communities directly for the first time, supporting many in the Jewish community with their daily commutes. Amid rising antisemitism, this route will provide a safe, sustainable, and affordable transport option as we strive to build a safer, fairer, and greener London for everyone.”
