Event held remembering Turkish earthquake a year on

One year on from the deadly earthquakes which claimed the lives of thousands in Turkey and Syria, Day-Mer held an event to remember those lost on February 6th 2023.

Te event which took place at the Day-Mer headquarters at 22 Moorefield Road, Tottenham, N17 6PY, included poetry, music, live connections, and speeches

In a statement Day-Mer, how took part in the event said:” Day-Mer delegation continued their inspections in Narlı, Pazarcık, Antep, and Adıyaman, following their initial assessments starting from Malatya. The Day-Mer team engaged in numerous meetings with earthquake victims in both villages and cities. They visited unions, political parties, associations, aid tents, and volunteer organizations. The provided aid aimed to address urgent needs such as food, water, winter clothing, special requirements for women and children, tents, and container houses. Items secured through Day-Mer’s sent aid were distributed to those in need through Emek Party, unions, and local associations in the most remote areas. The aid was delivered door-to-door in districts and villages, covering Gaziantep, Malatya, Hatay, İskenderun, Adıyaman, and Kahramanmaraş.

“Numerous members, particularly youth and women, mobilized to collect financial aid. Countless volunteers supported the financial aid collection efforts conducted throughout various parts of London. The campaign initiated to show solidarity withearthquake victims was primarily limited to financial aid, not out of choice but due to necessity…

Adding it will “Continue meeting ongoing needs and, most importantly, to hold those responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands accountable, we must organize and support institutions like Day-Mer. The more organized we are, the stronger we become.”
