Turkish schools commemorated Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş in London

Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş, were commemorated with memorial events held at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School and Dr. Fazıl Küçük Turkish School in South London.

The ceremony at Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School was attended by Deputy Consul General of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in London Ismail Şahinoğlu, Mayor of Bexley Ahmet Dourmoush, Education Counsellor of the Republic of Turkey in London Mevlut Ceylan along with community group representatives and members, as well as teachers, parents, and students.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the national anthem. This was followed by speeches from invited guests.  After video presentations about the late leaders Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş was shown and students, accompanied by their teachers, made presentations reflecting the lives and struggles of the two leaders and recited poems written for each leader. The closing of the ceremony featured a slideshow of photos taken two years ago during the ‘Cyprus Culture’ trips of the school’s students, accompanied by the song ‘Yağmurlarla Gitdin’ (

At Dr. Fazıl Küçük Turkish School, a commemoration event was organized. The event was attended by TRNC  Education and Culture Attaché Metin Harper and other community group representatives and members.

During the ceremony, students read poems, shared the leaders’ wise words, and concluded with a performance of the song “Mağusa Limanı” during the school relay race. After the school president Ulaş Tözün’s speech about the significance of the day, an event involving the participation of all parents and students took place.
