The British wing of Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party is set to elect its first formal leader.
The temporary commission that took charge of CHP İngiltere (Republican People’s Party UK) announced the contest would be held on 22 February at its first AGM.
In a press statement the group called on “all citizens who are concerned about our country’s unity, peace and its democracy” to become a member.
The group, which is recognised by CHP central office in Turkey, will hold the meeting at the Kervan Wedding Salon on Fore Street, Edmonton, between 11am and 4pm.
Among the events organised by CHP İngiltere last year was a panel on preventing violence against women where the psychiatrist Dr. Ayhan Akcan, CHP Istanbul MP Medla Onur, CHP UK leader Hasan Dikme and Dr Gülsüm Kav were speakers. It promises to hold more such events in the weeks to come.
