A painting exhibition titled “Art and Women” has been opened by the Alevi Cultural Centre UK and Cemevi Women’s Branch in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th. The exhibition features paintings by artists Sevda Uykan, Serpil Eryalcın, Zehra Efe, and Melek Çağlar.
Speaking about the exhibition held in the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Sevgi Sarıtaş, the President of the UK Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi Women’s Branch, emphasized the ubiquity of art, stating, “We worked to break the perception that only the wealthy create art. As a result, we decided to open the exhibition with the contributions of four women artists. It is important not to search for art in distant places.”
Painter Melek Çağlar highlighted the various forms of violence women face, expressing that in her paintings, she aims to reflect the hope and resilience of women. Painter Serpil Eryalçın mentioned her involvement in painting since childhood.
