WTM: A Successful Showcase for Turkey and North Cyprus

The World Travel Market (WTM), the world’s second-largest tourism fair, brought together industry representatives, professionals, travel agencies, tour operators, and official authorities for the 44th time in London.

Held at the Excel Exhibition Centre and featuring the participation of more than 180 countries, the WTM, which has been shortened to three days from four this year, drew significant interest to the stands of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The historical, cultural, and natural beauties of both countries were presented for visitors from around the world.

Taking place from November 6th to 8th, 2023, the WTM included the participation of TRNC’s Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu attended the fair, where he met with domestic and foreign tourism industry representatives.

At the fair, Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and Turkey’s Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş visited the TRNC stand. They discussed North Cyprus tourism with Minister Ataoğlu. Following their meeting, a photo was taken in front of the stands of the two countries.

Commenting on the good relations with Azerbaijan, Minister Ataoğlu expressed that they will soon undertake collaborative work with Azerbaijan.

Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, stated that the “World Travel Market Tourism Fair” held in the UK is of great importance to them. Ataoğlu explained that they attached more significance to the UK market this year, and they used different promotions after the promotional films in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey were broadcast on British television and websites.

He also mentioned that they would use new promotional films and marketing methods according to the protocol with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey and spoke about the positive effect of the promotional event organized for the promotion of the TRNC destination at Westfield Shopping Center in recent weeks.

Referring to the opening of the new Ercan Airport and Turkish Airlines launching flights with large-body aircraft to the TRNC last week, Ataoğlu stated that one large-body plane would land in the TRNC every day, which would significantly benefit tourism.

He also pointed out that SunExpress has also started flights to the TRNC and that they have held talks with new airlines, with new developments expected soon.

Ataoğlu met with Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy during the fair. During the approximately meeting, the two countries discussed tourism policies and new projects.
