Barbie’s iconic pink heels are by Turkish Cypriot-owned brand GINA

The film that broke global box office records this summer was undoubtedly Barbie. This fantasy comedy film, inspired by Mattel’s iconic fashion doll Barbie, achieved significant success by grossing over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide and setting numerous records.

Among Barbie’s appearances, her shoes were also a topic of conversation, especially the two distinctive pink slippers worn by Robbie in the movie. These shoes were designed and produced by GINA Shoes, owned by a Turkish Cypriot family.

The shoes have shimmering heels adorned with Swarovski crystals and feature a pink feather embellishment on the upper part of the slipper. GINA is selling this handmade luxury Malibu shoe for £795. Another GINA Shoes design, Margot, was also included in the Barbie film. Similar to Malibu, Margot is an elegant high-heeled pink satin slipper with a delicate pink ribbon and modified feathers on the vamp. You can purchase a pair for £695, but you’ll need to join the waiting list.

In 1954, master shoemaker Mehmet Kurdash founded GINA in London, inspired by the timeless beauty of Italian movie star and muse Gina Lollobrigida. With his workshop in the traditional shoemaking heartland of East London, GINA quickly established itself as a leader in luxury British shoemaking, a position it has proudly maintained until this day.

The first GINA boutique opened in London’s prestigious Knightsbridge in 1991, moving in 1994 to their flagship store location at 189 Sloane Street. GINA has since maintained its status as the go-to destination for luxury handmade women’s shoes, boots and handbags with store worldwide.
