Sivas Massacre commemorated in London

THE commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Sivas Massacre in London, took place on Sunday 2 July where community organisations representatives and community members came together the Madımak Memorial in Stoke Newington.

At the ceremony, carnations were left around the monument where photographs of those who lost their lives during the massacre were placed. In the speeches, a common opinion was advocated that the Madimak Massacre was carryout. Throughout the commemoration, slogans were chanted. After the speeches, young students played the instrument and recited the remembrance program.

In a statement British Alevi Federation said: “It was 30 years ago today, a city lost its voice. A city formed a fire. A city was silenced. A faith was set on fire. Intellectuals were burned, enlightenment was burned. The light of the peoples was covered by darkness. It was 30 years ago today the bards of the peoples were burned. Their instrument was burned, their word was burned, their voice was burned. Our souls stopped in the celestial fire, our souls were hurt, our consciences bled. It was 30 years ago today. A city with a heart of fire a people with a heart of fire. Unforgettable, of course, can never be forgotten. Every morning has an owner, one day they will ask, ask.”
