ON June 23 at the DB Music Stoke Newington venue a diverse & international lineup featuring ”Soul of The North” from Turkiye and Tara Cuningham from Bath UK will be performing live.
Soul Of The North known for their Blacksea’s traditional melodies meets global electronic sounds in this new project featuring masterful musicians Çağatay Kadı on electric guitar, Bahadir Esen on synth, bass and Aycan Yeter on vocals and Tulum.
The ethnic Blacksea instrument Tulum which has similar ancestors and principles as bagpipes take the lead, along with Yeter’s voice. Unusual time signatures carried along with heavy synth sounds and Kadi’s intricate guitar playing, the experience is one that takes you on a musical journey through time and the northern landscapes of Anatolia.
Tara Cunningham is a guitarist and composer based in London. Her work as a band member, collaborator and improviser has been described as having a “distinctive style that draws on both jazz and avant-rock… genuinely impressive” (Ian Mann). Now making her mark on the UK music scene, Tara has been a collaborator in multiple projects including her experimental/noise duo with Caius Williams, folk outfit ‘Wanderland’, avant-jazz sextet ‘Tenderhost’ and most recently trip-hop group ‘Red Snapper’. With these and many more, she regularly performs in London’s most celebrated venues, collecting praise from audiences, peers and critics alike, with a versatile and evolving skillset, but first and foremost “a wonderful guitarist” (Steve Mead – Manchester Jazz Festival).
